Coming from the house of UTV Motion Pictures, Muran, as the name suggests is a movie full of contradictions. Right from the beginning, Muran races along at a rapid pace, but Cheran with his calm and reassuring presence ensures that the pace doesn't become too much for the viewer to handle. The guy who takes the cake is Prasanna for sure. Right from his appearance to the subtle underplay of a millionaire's son, Prasanna endears himself to the viewer with his charming smile and the twinkle in his eyes. Nanda (Cheran) is a music director who is making a transition from ad films to movies, and is going through a troublesome marriage with Indhu (Nikita Thukral), who hates anything to do with him and most of all his passion in life, music. Nanda becomes one of the spectators to Arjun (Prasanna)'s death defying drunken leap from a terrace to a swimming pool. As fate would have it, Nanda is forced to hitchhike a ride, and the person who offers him a lift is none other than Arjun! This journey turns out to be the journey of a lifetime for Nanda who finds his whole life turned topsy-turvy after this!
Nanda and Arjun are people who have polar opposite viewpoints of life, which they realise when they share their life histories! Arjun is a guy who lives off the edge, and is constantly seeking thrill in his life, whilst Nanda is a soft-spoken guy who takes things as they come, and doesn't do much out-of-the ordinary. This leads to a wonderful chemistry between the two lead characters, which sparkles on screen! Both Arjun and Nanda have painful pasts, and when Arjun casually suggests that they do something radical about it, Nanda is taken aback! It is only when things start happening around Nanda that he realises that Arjun's statement was not just a casual remark, but something that he meant!
After this point, the story takes centre stage, and the wonderfully etched characters bring out their best. Cheran and Prasanna are perfect casts for their roles, and all the other actors like Jayaprakash, Haripriya, Nikita Thukral and Suma Bhattacharya bolster the movie with their performances. Prasanna has literally lived his character, and Muran is sure to give his career the long awaited boost, that would propel him into the big league!
Muran moves at break neck speed, with Prasanna and Cheran holding their forte, and it is very hard to believe that this is the debut movie for the twins Rajjan and Sajjan Madhav, who have handled the direction and music, respectively. Rajjan has ensured that the movie is taut, and does not sag at any point of time, and leaves the viewer wanting for more. Sajjan has captivated the viewers by composing music that just moves with the mood of the film. The melodious 'Idhuvarai' song is sure to haunt the viewers, even long after it is over. The superb camera angles add to the viewing pleasure of the viewer, and the costumes of the lead actors suits the situations very aptly! The dialogues are another talking point of the movie, and the dialogue: “Accidents happen all around us.........”, sets up the whole premise of the movie.Catch Muran at a theatre near you to see one of the best thrillers to hit Tamil cinema in a long while.
All in all, Muran is a must watch film, that will leave you with a sense of complete satisfaction of having watched a wonderful movie.
